For over 1500 years, the historical Silk Road served as an inspiring symbol of connecting diverse cultures and promoting development. This road made connections between Pakistan, China and other Central Asian countries that still exist.
As part of celebrating 70 years of friendship between Pakistan and China, an International Conference was organized by The Zhejiang and Tsinghua Universities of China, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Taxila Institute of Asian Civilizations at Quaid-i-Azam University and Silk Road Centre. This 2-day online conference was targeted to promote knowledge and research exchange on the cultures of the Silk Road. The event aimed at providing a forum to strengthen and expand cultural cooperation, knowledge and people-to-people exchanges among the Silk Road countries. The conference sessions highlighted the value of cultural diversity and dialogue to promote peace and development in the Silk Road Region.
Eminent scholars delivered their research-based lectures on various aspects of the Silk Road Region. The conference was opened by H.E. Mr. Moin ul Haque, Ambassador of Pakistan in China, followed by opening remarks by Maj. Gen. (R) Dr. Shahid Ahmad Hashmat.
Keynote speakers included Prince Miangul Adnan Aurangzeb, Professor Sun Yinggang (Zhejiang University) and Professor Li Xiguang (Tsinghua University).
Mr. Faraz Zaidi, Director General (China), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan was the Guest of Honor at the conference closing ceremony.
